INTERNATIONAL OPEN CHESS TOURNAMENT "WHITE TOWER"
Halkidiki GREECE, 3-9 October 2000
60 chessplayers from 18 countries participated in "White Tower 2000", a very interesting open tournament organized together with the 2000 European Youth Chess Championships in Halkidiki, Greece. The event was a 7-round Swiss with a total prize fund of 3000 euro, sponsored by the Municipality of Thessaloniki. The field included 2 GMs, 10 IMs and 5 FMs.
The final winner of the tournament was IM Anar Allahverdiev of Azerbaijan with 6 points, the same as GM Mark Hebden who had worse tie-break criteria. The 2 players shared 1200 euro for 1st place. The final standings at the top (7 rounds):
