5th Open Chess Tournament of Mytilene

July 24-31, 2000

A total of 36 players from 4 countries participated in the Open Chess Tournament "Mytilene 2000". GM Krum Georgiev won the event convicingly and he was awarded the 1st prize of 160000 drachmas (about 500 euro).

The final standings at the top (9 rounds):

1.) Krum Georgiev (GM 2532, Bulgaria) 7.5

2.) A. Karayannis (FM 2349, Greece) 7

3-4.) N. Kalesis (IM 2431, Greece) 6.5

3-4.) O. Stefanopoulos (FM 2228, Greece) 6.5

etc.

The tournament was organized by the Chess Club of Mytilene, the capital of Lesvos island in the Northeastern Aegean Sea.
